Story

This Ethiopian honey is among the finest in the world. It’s produced in the heavy rainfall woodlands of Majang Forest, alongside coffee trees, and harvested using traditional methods.

Harvest Season: November - December
Flowering Season: October
Colour: Medium-dark amber
Texture: Chewy and molasses like thickness
Olfactive Description: smoked applewood, quite umami forward

Gomo is indigenous to the region and thrives in dry to moist tropical forests. The communities around Majang Forest are nomadic and have centuries of generational knowledge on agriculture and tending to the land. Our Gomo honey comes from the heavy rainfall woodlands in Godere Woreda of Majang Forest, made by the Melikoye cooperative. The smoking material used to move bees away from the hive during harvest is the key agent of the smokey flavour this honey presents.

PRODUCTION
Smallholder farmers/beekeepers produce honey with us through mostly traditional beehives hung up in trees, with some honey production via “modern” box hives.

In-factory production involves the following steps; heat/cold press separation is the initial step to extract honey from the capping, which is then followed by filtration to filter out potential impurities.
