Ojeda Melendrez is the owner of a two hectare farm in Carmen Cautivo in Tabaconas district. Ojeda grows catimor, marsellesa and geisha varieties, and this lot is his first production of geisha. Ojeda decided to plant geisha after hearing about the high quality of the variety and the prices that were being paid for top lots. Ojeda had been dreaming of competing in the regional quality competition since he planted the coffee and this year, with his first production, he entered the Cajamarca quality competition and this lot passed through to the final 30 but only the top 10 were auctioned.
Ojeda’s farm sits at an altitude of 1600 metres and is planted with coffee and native shade trees such as guaba (inga) and pajurillo and fruit trees including citrus fruits, avocado and banana. Ojeda uses mostly organic farming practises with some occasional chemical fertiliser use. This lot was picked and fermented the same day, with a fermentation time of 36 hours and then dried on raised beds for 10 days.
