Peru El Carcamo

El Carcamo is a 2ha farm owned by Felipe Marin in the village of La Palma, Chirinos. The farm is planted with Caturra, Pache and Marshell and sits at an altitude of 1700 to 1800masl Felipe inherited the land from his father, Silvestre, and in 2015 he planted it with a number of different varieties found in most farms around Peru and then later in 2020 he planted half a hectare of Marshell variety, a variety which has risen to fame in the last decade in Peru for it’s cup quality and rust resistance.
Felipe carries out most of the work on the farm himself and with the help of his family and applies some organic and some chemical fertilisers. De-weeding is mixed between chemical and manual weeding, which Felipe says helps to bring costs down and to maintain a healthy farm and production. During the harvest season Felipe and his brothers hire seasonal workers who pass from one farm to the next picking and in the peak of the season they hire up to 10 pickers
